September 8-9th 2009 Heavy
Rainfall
|
Strong, slow moving
thunderstorms first developed over West-Central Kansas during the evening
of September 7th. With light upper level winds in place this cluster of
storms tracked slowly east across South Central and Southeast Kansas on
Tuesday September 8th. Another round of storms moved through South
Central and Southeastern Kansas overnight Tuesday through Wednesay morning
September 9th. The slow movement of the storms, coupled with a
tropical-like atmosphere in place, allowed these storms to produce heavy
rainfall across South Central and Southeast Kansas.
