February 10th, 2011 records the coldest temperature in Wichita in 29 Years! (3/16/2011)

New Record Low Temperature Set at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport


 

As arctic high pressure settled over the southern plains early this morning, predawn temperatures fell into the 15 to 24 below zero range across southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.  At 621 AM CST, the temperature at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport fell to 17 below zero breaking the previous record low of 5 below zero set in 1980. The last time Wichita saw temperatures fall this low was 29 years ago during February 1982, when the temperature fell to -21 degrees.   The -17 record now ties as the 4th coldest temperature on record.  Other record low temperatures were set across the area and can be found by clicking here.  The top 10 lowest daily minimum temperatures at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport are included below:
