...RESULTS OF STORM DAMAGE FOR VERMILION COUNTY FOR THE
JUNE 19...2009 STORMS...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND VERMILION COUNTY EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT CONDUCTED A STORM SURVEY OF THE DAMAGE FROM THE
FRIDAY...JUNE 19TH STORMS THAT HIT THE AREA. HERE ARE THE RESULTS...

...OAKWOOD AREA...
NWS AND VERMILION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS SURVEYED
THE OAKWOOD DAMAGE. THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY AN INTENSE DOWNBURST
OF DAMAGING WINDS PRODUCED BY A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS THAT MOVED
THROUGH THE AREA FROM 720 PM TO 725 PM.

THE DOWNBURST AFFECTED THE SOUTHERN SECTION OF THE CITY OF OAKWOOD
...SOUTH OF ROUTE 150 AND BEGINNING IN A FIELD WEST OF SOUTH OAKWOOD
STREET. TIN ROOFING MATERIAL WAS LIFTED OFF A BARN JUST SOUTH OF
ROUTE 150 AND WEST OF SOUTH OAKWOOD STREET. THE DAMAGING WINDS
FANNED OUT IN TWO DIRECTIONS AS IT CROSSED SOUTH OAKWOOD STREET.

THE FIRST AREA OF DAMAGE FANNED EAST NORTHEAST OVER A MOBILE HOME
PARK IN THE SOUTHERN SECTIONS OF OAKWOOD. DAMAGE IN THIS AREA
WAS COMPRIZED OF LARGE TREES AND LARGE LIMBS...AND POWER LINES
BLOWN DOWN...PLUS MINOR DAMAGE TO MOBILE HOME FLASHING AND SKIRTING.
ONE PORCH WAS TORN OFF. DAMAGE DUE TO LARGE LIMBS AND SEVERAL
TREES FALLING ON MOBILE HOMES WAS ALSO SEEN. WIND SPEEDS WERE
ESTIMATED IN THIS AREA AT AROUND 70 MPH.

A SECOND AREA OF DOWNBURST WINDS WAS FOUND TO THE SOUTH OF THE
FIRST AREA...WITH THE WIND FLOW FANNING IN AN EAST SOUTHEAST OR
SOUTHEAST DIRECTION. THIS AREA WAS ABOUT TWO TENTHS OF A MILE SOUTH
OF THE MOBILE HOME PARK...BEGINNING ON SOUTH OAKWOOD STREET AND
STRETCHING ABOUT THREE QUARTERS OF A MILE TO THE EAST TOWARD THE
VERMILION RIVER VALLEY. FIVE POWER POLES WERE FIRST BLOWN DOWN ALONG
SOUTH OAKWOOD STREET. A GARAGE WAS TOTALLY DESTROYED AND A SMALL
OUTBUILDING WAS PICKED UP AND DESTROYED. THIS AREA WAS MAINLY AN
OPEN CORN AND HAY FIELD...WITH THE YOUNG CORN PLANTS BENDING TO THE
EAST SOUTHEAST. EXTENSIVE TREE DAMAGE AND DOWNED POWER LINES
OCCURRED WITH DAMAGE TO SEVERAL HOMES IN A WOODED AREA TO THE EAST
OF THE OPEN FIELD. THE WINDS WERE ESTIMATED AT 85 TO 90 MPH.


...TORNADO REPORTS FROM THE FAIRMOUNT AND WESTVILLE AREAS...

VERMILION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS CONDUCTED
SURVEYS OF THE FAIRMOUNT AND WESTVILLE AREAS.
HERE ARE THE RESULTS...

AT 550 PM...VERMILION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SPOTTERS SIGHTED A
BRIEF TOUCHDOWN OF A TORNADO IN A FIELD...2 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF
FAIRMONT.  THE TOUCHDOWN LASTED 30 SECONDS. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE.


AT 609 PM...VERMILION COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SPOTTERS SIGHTED A
BRIEF TOUCHDOWN OF A TORNADO IN A FIELD...ONE HALF MILE WEST OF
WESTVILLE. THE TOUCHDOWN LASTED LESS THAN ONE MINUTE. THERE WAS ALSO
NO DAMAGE.

BOTH TORNADOES WERE RATED EF0.
