A winter storm paralyzed a large area
of southeast Missouri, Kentucky, southern Illinois, Indiana, and western
Ohio a few days before Christmas, snarling holiday traffic. The
heaviest amounts of snow were generally in the Ohio River valley, with
totals ranging from 12 to 24 inches on average; parts of south central
Indiana received nearly 30 inches.
