A powerful storm system moved into central Indiana on Halloween 2013, bringing heavy rain and damaging winds to the area. Wind gusts outside of thunderstorms reached into the 30-40 mph range ahead of the cold front. The line of storms with the cold front brought severe wind gusts of 60-75 mph to the area. This brought down trees and power lines in many areas.
Radar Velocity image valid at 9:42 PM. Green colors indicate winds blowing toward the radar (dark circle in southwest Marion co.), while red colors indicate winds blowing away from the radar. Winds were over 60 mph just a few hundred feet above the ground (across eastern Marion County in this image), and some of these winds made it to the ground with the heavy rain.
