Standard Rain Gauge

Picture of Standard Rain Gage

This gauge is called the Standard Rain Gauge, or SRG.  It sometimes is also referred to as an 8-inch rain gauge, in reference to its funnel diameter.  This is the most common form of non-mechanical rain gauge used for official measurements for the National Weather Service.  Not pictured is a small plastic rain gage (4-inch diameter funnel), used at sites where precipitation measurements are not as critical.
