January 2005 Ice Storm in Muncie

On January 5, 2005, a major ice storm hit Central Indiana north of Indianapolis from Lafayette to Kokomo and Tipton to Muncie, Anderson and Winchester. There were 180,00 people that lost power including most of the residents of Muncie. High winds combined with the weight of the ice caused numerous trees to fall down and transformers to explode. The power was out for numerous residents in the Muncie area for several days. Fortunately, the Ball State students were on the end of Christmas break.
