On this day in weather history...

1933 -- Dayton, Ohio was struck by a tornado at 6:37am.

1947 -- Fort Wayne's coldest May temperature: 27°.

1954 -- Two inches of snow fell on Goshen.

2000 -- Severe thunderstorm winds and large hail affected nearly the entire area. 75mph winds at LaPorte. A roof was ripped from a gas station in Michigan City. A house caught on fire in Michigan City when a pole was struck by lightning, cutting power lines and causing them to land along the basement wall. Lightning struck a power line in Osceola (Saint Joseph County Indiana) setting a church on fire. A barn was destroyed by winds in Logansport. A South Whitley (Whitley County) factory lost its roof, and the Tranter Printing building's roof blew off and crashed into a vehicle, destroying it. A construction trailer was blown over in Peru. Hail 1.75 inches in diameter fell at Etna and Lorane (Whitley County), Wolf Lake and Merriam (Noble County), Ashley (Steuben County), and Auburn. 84mph winds reported at Elkhart. Three million dollars damage done in Huntertown (Allen County Indiana) including two businesses and one home that were destroyed. High winds destroyed the under construction Builder's Square building in Fort Wayne. A house on Wildwood Avenue in Fort Wayne was heavily damaged when a tree fell onto it injuring the 6 people inside. Hail 2.75 inches in diameter at Marcellus (Cass County Michigan). Businesses in Wauseon suffered $20,000 of roof damage form the storms.

2003 -- An F1 tornado, accompanied by 60mph downburst winds and tennis ball sized hail, struck five miles south of Pierceton (Kosciusko County). An empty unsecured mobile home was blown 150 feet and many trees were uprooted. 70mph winds were reported at South Whitley (Whitley County). Hail four and a quarter inches in diameter pounded the earth two miles north of Columbia City and five miles west of Columbia City.
