Submitting a Storm Report

As technology continues to evolve, so does the methods to send reports of severe weather and other phenomena. For several years, the Espotter system has been a popular way to send reports to the National Weather Serivce. However, this system will likely be discontinued in 2013. It is planned to have a replacement system, but no further details are available. As a result, the following impacts will be felt:

  • Currently Registered Spotters: Spotters will remain able to send reports through Espotter . However, you are encouraged to begin using methods described below in preperation for the discontinuing of the Espotter interface.
  • Spotters Requesting Access: In anticipation of the ceasation of Espotter, no new requests will be authorized at this time. Spotters may use the methods below.

The following are the current means to provide weather reports to the Northern Indiana Office:

  • Toll Free Number (Spotters who have attended an NWS Sponsored Training have this number)

  • Twitter -You can follow us @nwsiwx and send reports to #nwsiwx

  • NWS Facebook - http://goo.gl/stzTt

  • Amateur Radio – WX9IWX

  • E-mailw-iwx.webmaster@noaa.gov

  • Phone - 574-834-1104 8 am to 5 pm. Can be delays

  • Emergency Management - Check your local phone book for contact numbers.  Can be delays

  • Law Enforcement (911) - Significant Delays possible.
