2008 NWS Preparedness Scramble Winning Team

2008 NWS Emergency Preparedness Golf Outing Champions

The National Weather Service Northern Indiana office held its annual golf scramble on September 19th, 2008  to promote emergency preparedness and provide valuable safety and preparedness information to all participants. There were a total of 48 golfers, representing 6 different NWS offices, 5 different Emergency Management agencies, and several local citizens. The weather was beautiful with afternoon temperatures in the lower 80s under sunny skies. The winning team was comprised of Steve Schwartz, Rick Schwartz, Carl Bayliss, and Greg Lorenz (pictured above). This team finished with a total score of 58, which is 14 under par. Congratulations Steve, Rick, Carl and Greg!! All team scores, proximity winners and pictures from the event can be found below.

This event has three goals and the first is to raise awareness and educate people about being prepared for emergencies and natural disasters. Posters with safety and preparedness information were placed throughout the course for golfers to view and brochures were made available at a display table in the clubhouse. A second goal is to raise money for relief and preparedness efforts for the American Red Cross. This year's event raised nearly $400, which will be donated to the relief efforts of those impacted by recent flooding in northwest Indiana. The third goal of this event is to simply bring people in the emergency response/preparedness fields together with local citizens to socialize, ask/answer questions, and have fun. All three goals were successfully met!!

The National Weather Service would like to thank everyone who participated! We hope you had fun and will return next year for another great event! Special thanks to Randy and everyone at Walnut Creek Golf Course for all their help and hard work!
