1922 -- Goshen fell to -25°.
1950 -- Angola rose to 67°, Goshen and South Bend to 68° (South Bend's warmest January temperature on record), and Fort Wayne and Plymouth to 69°. It was Fort Wayne's warmest January day, with an all-time record warm January low of 52°, and the high of 69° was the warmest temperature ever recorded in January at Fort Wayne.
1978 -- The Great Blizzard of '78 began. At South Bend 35" of snow fell by the 29th. Winds gusted to 35 mph on the 26th with temperatures in the 20s and over 15" of snow falling that day. In Fort Wayne 10" of snow fell from the 25th into the 26th. On the 26th temperatures fell to 4° while winds howled up to 55 mph bringing wind chills to -60°.
1985 -- Wind gusts to 59 mph with a foot of snowfall wreaked havoc across LaPorte, Marshall, Starke, and Saint Joseph Indiana counties.
1990 -- Winds gusted to 76 mph at Wabash and 58 mph at Fort Wayne. Thunderstorms dropped an inch of rain on South Bend with temperatures around 50° in the late morning hours...followed by a tenth of an inch of snow and temperature in the middle 20s that evening.
2000 -- Blizzard-like white-out conditions in intense lake effect snow squalls. Up to 20" of snow fell at Michigan City and LaPorte, a foot near New Carlisle (Saint Joseph County Indiana) but only an inch at Mishawaka (Saint Joseph County Indiana). 16" fell at Baroda (Berrien County).
