1980 -- Derecho strikes Northern Illinois/Indiana and southern Michigan during the morning. St. Joseph Coast Guard station measures a 98 mph wind gust with widespread severe wind damage across most of southern Michigan. Winds esimated up to 150 mph in Wayne county cause catastrophic damage. A tornado was sighted west of Albion at 6:30am.
