1944 -- A tornado in Sioux County, Iowa remained stationary for 15 minutes, then traveled to the southeast for 3 miles, then moved south, then east, then north, and then east again.

1992 -- The only F5 tornado of the first half of the 1990s moved through Nobles County, Minnesota. About one-third of the town of Chandler was destroyed. A canceled check from Chandler was later found 95 miles away. One person was killed.

1994 -- Five people were killed by a single bolt of lightning in Virginia when lightning struck a grove of small trees in which they were seeking shelter.
