1933 -- The Dust Bowl's first big dust storm spread from Montana through the Ohio Valley to the east coast. Black rain fell on New York with brown snow in Vermont. Parts of the Midwest reported zero visibility.
1946 -- The first cloud seeding experiment resulted in light snow in western Massachusetts.
1953 -- After seven years of service, Kenneth Newendorp left the Fort Wayne Weather Bureau (now the National Weather Service) office to become Fort Wayne's first TV weatherman.
1996 -- Up to 40" of lake effect snow fell on northern lower Michigan from the 9th through the 14th.
