1927 -- A tornado ripped through Saint Louis at 1pm killing 79 people and doing $25 million in damage along its path. It was almost half a mile wide when it dissipated in Granite City, Illinois. Tornadoes this day were spread from Oklahoma to Indiana.

1938 -- A tornado hit Charleston, South Carolina at 8 am and did $2 million in damage. A total of five tornadoes hit the city between 6:45am and 9am, killing 32 people.

1951 -- Angola fell to 28°, Plymouth to 24°. Fort Wayne had its coldest September temperature, of 29°.

1967 -- Fort Wayne's coldest September high temperature, of 46°.
