50 Year Honored Institution Award presented to Buckhorn Lake Corps of Engineers

On Tuesday, May 04, 2010, the National Weather Service office in Jackson, KY, presented a 50 Year Honored Institution Award to the Corp of Engineers staff at Buckhorn Lake. Honored Institution Awards are presented every 25 years to an institution or organization in which several people have taken weather observations over a period of years. Construction of the Buckhorn Lake Dam began in October 1956, and the lake became operational in December 1961. The Corp of Engineers staff began taking weather observations on January 1, 1960. The National Weather Service office in Jackson, KY, wishes to thank both current and former staff members for their dedication in protecting people and resources of eastern Kentucky.
