Fire Weather
Fire Weather Logo The National Weather Service's Fire Weather Program is designed to provide forecast, warning, and consultation services for the prevention, suppression, and management of forest and rangeland fires and for a host of land management activities. These meteorological services are built to meet the weather requirements of federal and state wild land managers.

WFO Jackson has fire weather responsibility for most of eastern Kentucky, including the Daniel Boone National Forest, and portions of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation area, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, and Jefferson National Forest.

The normal fire season will be separated into two periods. The spring season will run from February 15 through April 30. The fall fire season will run from October 1 through December 15. These dates may change depending on the severity of the fire season.

Fire Weather Discussion for Eastern Kentucky:

EXPECT A DAY OF DRY WEATHER TODAY BEFORE A WARM
DEVELOPS AND MOVES NORTH THROUGH THE AREA LATE TONIGHT BRINING
A BOUT OF RAIN AND AREAS OF FREEZING RAIN. THIS WILL CHANGE TO
ALL RAIN BY SUNDAY WITH CONTINUED PRECIPITATION THROUGH SUNDAY
AND SUNDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL BE THE BEGINNING OF A SERIES OF LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEMS MOVING THROUGH THE AREA AS A VERY WET PATTERN
WILL BE IN PLACE. THEREFORE...THERE WILL BE NO FIRE WEATHER
CONCERNS.
