WETTER AND SLIGHTLY WARMER THAN NORMAL FOR NORTH PLATTE
WETTER AND SLIGHTLY COOLER THAN NORMAL FOR VALENTINE
DRY CONDITIONS AND NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES PERSISTED FOR NEARLY THE 
ENTIRE MONTH OF DECEMBER. NORTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT CONTINUED WITH
NUMEROUS DRY SYSTEMS CROSSING THE CENTRAL PORTION OF THE COUNTRY. BY
THE END OF THE MONTH...A BROAD TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPED OVER
THE WESTERN PORTION OF THE COUNTRY. A MAJOR WINTER STORM SYSTEM
DEVELOPED OVER THE FOUR CORNERS AND LIFTED ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS
ON THE 30TH AND 31ST. THIS SYSTEM BROUGHT WIDESPREAD SNOW TO WESTERN
AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA WHICH RANGED FROM 3 INCHES IN EASTERN
FRONTIER COUNTY...TO NEARLY A FOOT IN THE WESTERN SANDHILLS AND
EASTERN NEBRASKA PANHANDLE.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER
WAS 27.0 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 1.3 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 25.7
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 40.0 DEGREES WHICH
WAS 0.8 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 39.2 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY
LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 13.9 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 1.8 DEGREES ABOVE THE
NORMAL OF 12.1 DEGREES. NO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET FOR
THE MONTH AT NORTH PLATTE.

FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER WAS
23.1 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 0.5 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 23.6
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 36.3 DEGREES...WHICH
WAS 0.4 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 36.7 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY
MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS 9.9 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 0.6 DEGREES BELOW
THE NORMAL OF 10.5 DEGREES. NO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET
FOR THE MONTH AT VALENTINE.

PRECIPITATION FOR DECEMBER TOTALED 0.44 INCHES AT LEE BIRD
FIELD...ALMOST ALL OF WHICH FELL ON THE 30TH AND 31ST. THE MONTHLY
TOTAL WAS 0.04 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.40 INCHES. ONE DAILY
PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS SET DURING THE MONTH. ON THE 31ST...0.30
INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 0.23
INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1924. SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 7.6
INCHES...AND WAS 3.3 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 4.3 INCHES. ONE
DAILY SNOWFALL RECORD WAS SET DURING THE MONTH. ON THE 31ST...5.1
INCHES OF SNOW FELL AT LEE BIRD FIELD BREAKING THE RECORD OF 2.4
INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1977 AND 1924.

AT VALENTINE...PRECIPITATION FOR DECEMBER TOTALED 0.86 INCHES WHICH
WAS 0.53 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.33 INCHES. SNOWFALL TOTALED
7.2 INCHES...WHICH WAS 2.2 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 5.0 INCHES.
ONE DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS SET FOR THE MONTH IN VALENTINE.
ON THE 11TH...0.16 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL AT MILLER FIELD.
THIS MARK BROKE THE RECORD OF 0.09 INCHES SET IN 1965.
