NOVEMBER 2010
SLIGHTLY WARMER THAN NORMAL AND DRIER THAN NORMAL
FOR NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE

NORTHWESTERLY FLOW ALOFT WAS PERSISTENT ACROSS THE CENTRAL
PLAINS DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER. THIS LED TO DRIER THAN
NORMAL CONDITIONS AND TEMPERATURES WHICH WERE SLIGHTLY ABOVE
NORMAL. AS WE HEAD INTO THE WINTER MONTHS...AVERAGE MONTHLY
PRECIPITATION DECREASES TO UNDER A HALF AN INCH DURING THE
MONTHS OF DECEMBER...JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. SIGNIFICANT
PRECIPITATION IS HIGHLY DEPENDENT ON MAJOR WEATHER SYSTEMS
LIFTING ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS FROM THE DESERT SOUTHWEST.
WITH THE CURRENT PATTERN FAVORING NORTHWESTERLY FLOW
ALOFT...AND WITH A STRONG LA NINA IN PLACE...DRIER THAN
NORMAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST THROUGH THE
WINTER MONTHS.
 
FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR
NOVEMBER WAS 34.8 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 0.2 DEGREES ABOVE THE
NORMAL OF 34.6 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE
WAS 49.6 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 1.1 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF
48.5 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 20.0
DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.7 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 20.7
DEGREES. NO TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE MONTH OF
NOVEMBER AT NORTH PLATTE.
 
FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR
NOVEMBER WAS 34.0 DEGREES WHICH WAS 1.0 DEGREES ABOVE THE
NORMAL OF 33.0 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE
WAS 48.4 DEGREES WHICH WAS 2.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF
45.9 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 19.6
DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.5 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 20.1
DEGREES. TWO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE
MONTH AT VALENTINE. ON THE SIXTH...THE HIGH TEMPERATURE
REACHED 82 DEGREES BREAKING THE RECORD OF 81 DEGREES SET
PREVIOUSLY IN 2009. ON THE TWENTY FIFTH...THE LOW
TEMPERATURE HIT 8 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. THIS MARK BROKE THE
RECORD OF 7 BELOW ZERO SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1975.

PRECIPITATION FOR NOVEMBER TOTALED 0.62 INCHES AT LEE BIRD
FIELD. THIS TOTAL WAS 0.14 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 0.76
INCHES. FOR THE MONTH...0.5 INCHES OF SNOW FELL WHICH WAS
4.4 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 4.9 INCHES. NO DAILY
PRECIPITATION OR SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE MONTH
OF NOVEMBER AT NORTH PLATTE.
 
AT VALENTINE...PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 0.15
INCHES WHICH WAS 0.57 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 0.72
INCHES. SNOWFALL TOTALED 0.6 INCHES...WHICH WAS 5.7 INCHES
BELOW THE NORMAL OF 6.3 INCHES. NO DAILY PRECIPITATION OR
SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE MONTH AT VALENTINE.
