FEBRUARY 2011
WETTER AND MUCH COLDER THAN NORMAL
FOR NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE
OVER THE ENTIRE MONTH OF FEBRUARY...AVERAGE TEMPERATURES WERE MUCH  
COLDER THAN NORMAL AND AVERAGE PRECIPITATION WAS WETTER THAN NORMAL
FOR BOTH NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE. THE MONTH STARTED OFF BITTERLY
COLD...BUT BY THE TENTH OF THE MONTH...A PATTERN SHIFT RESULTED IN
MUCH WARMER TEMPERATURES...WHICH LED TO RECORD HIGHS ON THE
FIFTEENTH AND SIXTEENTH. ARCTIC AIR SET IN ONCE AGAIN DURING THE
LAST WEEK OF THE MONTH...RESULTING IN TEMPERATURES WELL BELOW NORMAL
TO CLOSE OUT THE MONTH.
 
FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY
WAS 25.0 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 4.4 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 29.4
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 39.8 DEGREES WHICH
WAS 3.5 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 43.3 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY
LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 10.3 DEGREES WHICH WAS 5.1 DEGREES
BELOW THE NORMAL OF 15.4 DEGREES. TWO RECORD HIGHS WERE EITHER TIED
OR BROKEN DURING THE MONTH...WHILE ONE RECORD LOW WAS TIED DURING
THE MONTH. ON THE NINTH...THE LOW TEMPERATURE BOTTOMED OUT AT 18
BELOW ZERO. THIS MARK TIED THE RECORD SET IN 1933 AND 1901. ON THE
FIFTEENTH...THE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 67 DEGREES. THIS TIED THE
RECORD HIGH OF 67 SET IN 1946. A DAY LATER ON THE SIXTEENTH...THE
HIGH SURGED TO 71 DEGREES AT LEE BIRD FIELD BREAKING THE RECORD OF
66 DEGREES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1981...1916...AND 1880.
 
FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY WAS
21.9 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 4.7 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 26.6
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 33.8 DEGREES...WHICH
WAS 5.6 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 39.4 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY
MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS 10.0 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 3.7 DEGREES BELOW
THE NORMAL OF 13.7 DEGREES. TWO RECORD HIGHS WERE BROKEN DURING THE
MONTH AT VALENTINE. ON THE FIFTEENTH...THE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 66
DEGREES BREAKING THE RECORD OF 62 SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1931. A DAY
LATER ON THE SIXTEENTH...THE MERCURY SURGED TO 71 DEGREES...BREAKING
THE RECORD OF 65 SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1951.
 
FOR NORTH PLATTE...PRECIPITATION FOR FEBRUARY TOTALED 0.68
INCHES...WHICH WAS 0.17 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.51 INCHES.
NO DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH AT NORTH
PLATTE. SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 7.2 INCHES...WHICH WAS 2.4
INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 4.8 INCHES. NO DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS
WERE SET FOR THE MONTH AT NORTH PLATTE.
 
AT VALENTINE...PRECIPITATION FOR FEBRUARY TOTALED 0.87 INCHES WHICH
WAS 0.39 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.48 INCHES. ON THE 20TH...0.58
INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL AT MILLER FIELD. THIS MARK BROKE THE
PREVIOUS RECORD OF 0.40 INCHES SET IN 1894. SNOWFALL TOTALED 6.5
INCHES...WHICH WAS 0.3 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 6.2 INCHES. NO
DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY IN
VALENTINE.
