WETTER AND MUCH COLDER THAN NORMAL
FOR NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE
MUCH COLDER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED DURING THE 
MONTH OF JANUARY 2011. THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE MONTH SAW
TEMPERATURES MUCH BELOW NORMAL...WITH NEAR NORMAL TEMPERATURES
DURING THE LATTER HALF OF THE MONTH. TWO MAJOR WINTER STORM SYSTEMS
TRACKED ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA DURING THE
MONTH...WITH ACCUMULATING SNOWS OCCURRING FROM THE NINTH THROUGH THE
ELEVENTH OF THE MONTH...AND ON THE EIGHTEENTH AND NINETEENTH.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR JANUARY WAS
20.4 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 2.8 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 23.2
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 33.9 DEGREES WHICH
WAS 2.6 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 36.5 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY
LOW TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 6.9 DEGREES WHICH WAS 3.0 DEGREES
BELOW THE NORMAL OF 9.9 DEGREES. NO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE
SET FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY IN NORTH PLATTE.

FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR JANUARY WAS
17.1 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 3.7 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 20.8
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 28.6 DEGREES...WHICH
WAS 5.2 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 33.8 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY
MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS 5.6 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 2.2 DEGREES BELOW
THE NORMAL OF 7.8 DEGREES. NO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE SET FOR
THE MONTH AT VALENTINE.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 1.05 INCHES
WHICH WAS 0.66 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.39 INCHES. JANUARY 2011
WILL GO DOWN AS THE SEVENTH WETTEST ON RECORD IN NORTH PLATTE. TWO
DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH IN NORTH
PLATTE. ON THE NINTH...0.37 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL AT LEE BIRD
FIELD. THIS BROKE THE RECORD OF 0.30 INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1892.
TEN DAYS LATER ON THE NINETEENTH...0.47 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION
FELL...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 0.23 INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1945.
JANUARY 2011 WAS THE SECOND SNOWIEST ON RECORD WITH 14.7 INCHES OF
SNOW REPORTED AT LEE BIRD FIELD. THIS AMOUNT WAS A WHOPPING 9.6
INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 5.1 INCHES. TWO DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS
OCCURRED DURING THE MONTH. ON THE NINTH...5.8 INCHES OF SNOW
FELL...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 5.1 INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1985. THE
SECOND DAILY SNOWFALL RECORD OCCURRED ON THE NINETEENTH WHEN 6.3
INCHES OF SNOW FELL. THIS MARK BROKE THE RECORD OF 3.0 INCHES SET
PREVIOUSLY IN 1966 AND 1945.

AT VALENTINE...PRECIPITATION FOR DECEMBER TOTALED 0.74 INCHES WHICH
WAS 0.44 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.30 INCHES. SNOWFALL TOTALED
9.3 INCHES...WHICH WAS 4.6 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 4.7 INCHES. NO
DAILY PRECIPITATION OR SNOWFALL RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE MONTH OF
JANUARY IN VALENTINE.
