Record Tying Heat September 28th!

Record high temperatures were tied at both Valentine and North Platte Wednesday, September 28th. North Platte tied its old record of 92 degrees previously set in 1953 while Valentine tied its old record of 92 set in 1969. Warm temperatures were record across the remainder of western and central Nebraska as well as temperatures soared into the upper 80s. Daily High Temperatures
The culprit was a strong area of low pressure dropping southward out of Canada into the northern plains. As this system intensified, warm temperatures aloft were drawn northward across Nebraska ahead of the surface cold front. Combined with clear skies, this allowed for efficient radiational heating and the unusually warm temperatures across Nebraska.
