FOR VALENTINE AND NORTH PLATTE
APRIL WILL GO DOWN AS A COLD AND SNOWY MONTH...HOWEVER TOTAL
PRECIPITATION WAS BELOW NORMAL. NUMEROUS ARCTIC OUTBREAKS
RESULTED IN NUMEROUS COLD TEMPERATURE RECORDS...AND THE COLD
TEMPERATURES RESULTED IN SEVERAL PRECIPITATION EVENTS RESULTING
IN SNOW. IT HAS NOW BEEN A FULL 12 MONTHS OF DRY CONDITIONS
RESULTING IN RECORD TO NEAR RECORD RAINFALL DEFICITS. NORTH
PLATTE HAS SET THE RECORD FOR DRIEST 12 MONTH PERIOD WITH ONLY
7.23 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION SINCE MAY 1 2012...WHICH IS 13.00
INCHES BELOW NORMAL. VALENTINE IS IN THE TOP 10 WITH JUST UNDER
10 INCHES...10.44 INCHES BELOW NORMAL. OTHER SITES ACROSS THE
AREA...BROKEN BOW AND IMPERIAL RECORDED ONLY 4.70 INCHES AND 9.00
INCHES...RESPECTIVELY...IN THE 12 MONTH PERIOD.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR APRIL
WAS 42.9 DEGREES AND WAS 4.7 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 47.6
DEGREES. THE 42.9 DEGREES IS THE 8TH COLDEST FOR THE MONTH OF
APRIL...WITH 1920 HOLDING THE RECORD AT 40.5 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE
DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 57.6 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 4.6 DEGREES
BELOW THE NORMAL OF 62.2 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW
TEMPERATURE WAS 28.3 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 4.7 DEGREES BELOW THE
NORMAL 33.0 DEGREES. THE 28.3 DEGREES RANKS SECOND FOR LOWEST ON
RECORD FOR APRIL...JUST BEHIND 1907 WHICH SAW AN AVERAGE DAILY
LOW TEMPERATURE OF 28.2 DEGREES. FOUR DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORD
WERE SET OR TIED DURING THE MONTH OF APRIL AT NORTH PLATTE. ON
APRIL 23 THE LOW WAS 18 DEGREES...BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 22
DEGREES SET IN 1963. THE FOLLOWING DAY...APRIL 24...A LOW OF 14
DEGREES BROKE THE 1972 RECORD OF 21 DEGREES. EARLIER IN THE
MONTH...A HIGH OF 26 DEGREES TIED A LOWEST DAILY MAXIMUM FROM
1997 ON APRIL 10. ON APRIL 18 THE HIGH WAS ONLY 35 DEGREES WHICH
TIED THE LOWEST DAILY MAXIMUM SET IN 1920.

FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR APRIL WAS
40.2 DEGREES WHICH WAS 6.5 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 46.7
DEGREES. WITH THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE OF 40.2

1920...37.0 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 52.5
DEGREES WHICH WAS 7.8 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 60.3 DEGREES.
THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 28.0 DEGREES WHICH WAS 5.0
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 33.0 DEGREES. THE COLD MONTH RESULTED
IN 3 NEW RECORDS AND 3 RECORDS THAT WERE TIED. THE FIRST RECORD
OCCURRED ON APRIL 9...WHEN THE LOW DIPPED TO 14 DEGREES...TYING A
1928 RECORD. THEN ON APRIL 18...THE HIGH WAS ONLY 34 DEGREES
WHICH TIED THE 1920 RECORD FOR LOWEST DAILY MAXIMUM. AN ARCTIC
OUTBREAK RESULTED IN 4 RECORDS FROM APRIL 22 TO APRIL 24. NEW LOW
RECORDS WERE SET ON APRIL 22 AND APRIL 23. ON APRIL 22 THE LOW
WAS 18 DEGREES...BREAKING THE 1982 RECORD OF 19. ON APRIL 23 THE
LOW DROPPED TO 12 DEGREES...SHATTERING THE 1988 RECORD OF 20
DEGREES. ALSO ON APRIL 23...THE HIGH WAS ONLY 37
DEGREES...BREAKING THE 1931 RECORD OF 38 DEGREES...FOR LOWEST
DAILY MAXIMUM. FINALLY ON APRIL 24...THE THERMOMETER DROPPED TO
22 DEGREES...TYING THE 1972 RECORD FOR DAILY RECORD LOW.

PRECIPITATION AT LEE BIRD FIELD TOTALED 1.27 INCHES FOR THE
MONTH...WHICH WAS 1.00 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL 2.27 INCHES. WHILE
1.27 INCHES WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL...IT WAS THE WETTEST MONTH
SINCE APRIL OF 2012. SNOWFALL DURING APRIL TOTALED 6.7
INCHES...AND WAS 3.5 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL 3.2 INCHES. ONE
PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS SET DURING THE MONTH. ON APRIL 16 A
TOTAL OF 5.3 INCHES OF SNOWFALL WAS RECORD...BREAKING THE OLD
RECORD OF 2.0 INCHES SET IN 1960 AND 1945.

VALENTINE PRECIPITATION IN APRIL TOTALED 1.86 INCHES WHICH WAS
0.36 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL 2.22 INCHES. SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH
TOTALED A STAGGERING 14.2 INCHES AT VALENTINE...AND WAS 9.6
INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL 4.6 INCHES. ONE DAILY SNOWFALL RECORD WAS
SET DURING THE MONTH. ON APRIL 8 A SNOW STORM BROUGHT 5.1 INCHES
OF SNOW...BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 4.5 INCHES SET IN 1913.
