TEMPERATURES WELL ABOVE NORMAL FOR NORTH PLATTE AND VALENTINE
PRECIPITATION WELL ABOVE NORMAL FOR NORTH PLATTE
PRECIPITATION SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL FOR VALENTINE
SEPTEMBER 2013 STARTED IN THE SAME WAY AUGUST ENDED...WELL ABOVE  
NORMAL WITH SEVERAL RECORD HIGHS SET. THE SECOND HALF OF THE
MONTH SAW MORE SEASONAL DAYS...HOWEVER STILL RECORDED SEVERAL
DAYS WITH WELL ABOVE NORMAL. CONVECTION CONTINUED TO BE SPOTTY
ACROSS THE AREA WITH SOME AREAS SETTING DAILY RECORD RAINFALL
AMOUNTS...WHILE A FEW MILES AWAY SIGNIFICANTLY LESS RAINFALL WAS
RECORDED.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR
SEPTEMBER WAS 67.8 DEGREES...AND WAS 5.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL
OF 62.3 DEGREES. SEPTEMBER 2013 WILL GO DOWN AS THE 10TH WARMEST
ON RECORD...IN A TIE WITH 1922 AND 1919...AND WELL SHORT OF THE
TOP SPOT...71.0 DEGREES SET IN 1931. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH
TEMPERATURE WAS 81.7 DEGREES AND WAS 3.9 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL
OF 77.8 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE RANKED AS THE
21ST WARMEST. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 53.9
DEGREES...WHICH WAS A WHOPPING 7.1 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL VALUE
OF 46.8 DEGREES...RANKING 9TH WARMEST ALL TIME. THERE WERE TWO
TEMPERATURE RECORDS SET DURING THE MONTH. ON SEPTEMBER 6 A HIGH
OF 103 DEGREES BROKE THE 1931 RECORD OF 102 DEGREES. TWO DAYS
LATER...ON SEPTEMBER 8...A HIGH OF 101 DEGREES BROKE THE OLD
RECORD OF 99 DEGREES SET IN 1955. THE HIGH OF 103 DEGREES ON
SEPTEMBER 6 WAS THE SECOND HIGHEST TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED IN
SEPTEMBER...BEHIND THE SEPTEMBER 5 1931 HIGH OF 105 DEGREES.

FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE WAS 68.4
DEGREES...AND WAS AN AMAZING 6.1 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 62.3
DEGREES. THIS RANKS 4TH WARMEST ALL TIME FOR SEPTEMBER AT
VALENTINE. THE WARMEST SEPTEMBER ALL TIME WAS 69.8 DEGREES...SET
IN 1897. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 82.7
DEGREES...WHICH WAS 5.4 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 77.3 DEGREES.
THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 54.1 DEGREES...WHICH WAS
6.4 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 47.4 DEGREES. ONE DAILY
TEMPERATURE RECORD WAS SET DURING THE MONTH. ON SEPTEMBER 6TH A
HIGH OF 105 DEGREES BROKE THE 1980 RECORD OF 101 DEGREES. THIS
WAS ALSO ONE DEGREE BELOW THE ALL TIME WARMEST TEMPERATURE IN
SEPTEMBER...106 DEGREES SET ON SEPTEMBER 9 1931.

PRECIPITATION AT LEE BIRD FIELD IN NORTH PLATTE TOTALED AN
ASTONISHING 5.08 INCHES...WHICH WAS 3.67 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL
OF 1.41 INCHES. ONE DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS SET DURING THE
MONTH OF SEPTEMBER FOR NORTH PLATTE. ON SEPTEMBER 15TH A TOTAL OF
2.82 INCHES WAS RECORDED AT LEE BIRD FIELD...BREAKING THE 1963
RECORD OF 2.50 INCHES. THIS RECORD RAINFALL FELL MAINLY AT THE
AIRPORT...THE OFFICIAL AUTOMATED GAUGE FOR NORTH PLATTE LOCATED A
FEW MILES EAST OF TOWN...GENERALLY MISSING THE MAJORITY OF THE
CITY OF NORTH PLATTE. THE TOTAL OF 5.08 INCHES DURING THE MONTH
RANKS 7TH ALL TIME AS THE WETTEST. TO COMPARE HOW LOCALIZED THE
HEAVY RAIN WAS IN THE NORTH PLATTE AREA...THE CLOSEST COOPERATIVE
OBSERVING STATION...LOCATED AT THE NORTH PLATTE EXPERIMENTAL
FARM...RECORDED ONLY 2.36 INCHES DURING THE MONTH.

PRECIPITATION AT MILLER FIELD IN VALENTINE TOTALED 1.55 INCHES
FOR THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER...WHICH WAS 0.09 INCHES BELOW THE
NORMAL OF 1.64 INCHES. ONE PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS SET DURING
THE MONTH...ON SEPTEMBER 27...A TOTAL OF 0.88 INCHES BROKE THE
1945 TOTAL OF 0.88 INCHES.
