How Much/Often Does It Snow In May

Typically the month of May sees the last freeze across Western and North Central Nebraska, and occasionally on these chilly May nights, some precipitation in the form of snow has been reported.  There have even been a few heavy wet snow storms in recorded history that produced several inches of snow.  A major system brought significant snow to the plains between May 27-29, 1947, which resulted in portions of Western and North Central Nebraska seeing more than 6 inches of snow.  The main snow band fell between North Platte and Valentine as only 0.5 inches and 4.0 inches was recorded, respectively.  Below are some statistics for May snow storms reported at North Platte and Valentine.
