PLATTE...WHILE TEMPERATURES WERE ABOVE NORMAL AND PRECIPITATION
BELOW NORMAL FOR VALENTINE IN DECEMBER...

ABUNDANT PRECIPITATION FELL ACROSS WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL
NEBRASKA IN FEBRUARY AS A TANDEM OF WINTER STORMS TRACKED ACROSS THE
CENTRAL PLAINS. TWO SEPARATE SNOW STORMS...THE FIRST ON FEBRUARY
10TH AND THE SECOND ON FEBRUARY 20TH AND 21ST...BROUGHT WELCOME
MOISTURE TO WESTERN AND NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA. GIVEN THE LONG TERM
PRECIPITATION DEFICITS WHICH CARRIED OVER FROM LAST
YEAR...EXCEPTIONAL DROUGHT CONDITIONS CONTINUE TO PLAGUE WESTERN AND
NORTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA.

FOR NORTH PLATTE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY
WAS 28.9 DEGREES AND WAS 0.1 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 29.0
DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 42.8 DEGREES...WHICH
WAS 0.2 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 43.0 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY
LOW TEMPERATURE WAS 15.0 DEGREES WHICH WAS NORMAL FOR THE MONTH. NO
DAILY RECORD HIGHS OR LOWS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY FOR
NORTH PLATTE.

FOR VALENTINE...THE AVERAGE DAILY MEAN TEMPERATURE FOR FEBRUARY WAS
28.4 DEGREES WHICH WAS 1.2 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 27.2 DEGREES.
THE AVERAGE DAILY HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 39.9 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.1
DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 40.0 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE DAILY LOW
TEMPERATURE WAS 16.9 DEGREES WHICH WAS 2.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL
OF 14.4 DEGREES. ONE DAILY RECORD HIGH MINIMUM TEMPERATURE WAS SET
DURING THE MONTH. ON THE FIFTH...THE LOW TEMPERATURE IN VALENTINE
HIT 34 DEGREES...WHICH WAS THE NEW WARMEST MINIMUM TEMPERATURE FOR
THAT DATE. THE PREVIOUS RECORD WAS 32 DEGREES IN 1999 AND 1926.

PRECIPITATION AT LEE BIRD FIELD TOTALED 1.04 INCHES FOR THE
MONTH...AND WAS 0.54 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.50 INCHES. TWO
DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORDS WERE SET FOR THE MONTH IN NORTH PLATTE.
ON THE 10TH...0.41 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED...BREAKING
THE RECORD OF 0.39 INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1993. A SECOND DAILY
PRECIPITATION RECORD WAS SET ON THE 21ST. ON THAT DATE...0.37 INCHES
FELL AT LEE BIRD FIELD...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 0.27 INCHES SET
PREVIOUSLY IN 1931.

TOTAL SNOWFALL FOR FEBRUARY AT LEE BIRD FIELD WAS 11.0 INCHES...AND WAS
5.7 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 5.3 INCHES. TWO DAILY SNOWFALL
RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH FOR NORTH PLATTE. ON THE
10TH...4.4 INCHES OF SNOW FELL DURING THE MONTH...BREAKING THE
RECORD OF 3.2 INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1965.  ON THE 21ST...4.6
INCHES OF SNOW FELL...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 4.0 INCHES SET
PREVIOUSLY IN 1887.

VALENTINE PRECIPITATION IN FEBRUARY TOTALED 0.98 INCHES WHICH WAS
0.50 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.48 INCHES. TWO DAILY PRECIPITATION
RECORDS WERE SET DURING THE MONTH. ON THE 10TH 0.49 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION FELL AT MILLER FIELD...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 0.33
INCHES SET PREVIOUSLY IN 1993. ON THE 21ST...0.30 INCHES OF
PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED...BREAKING THE RECORD OF 0.24 INCHES SET
PREVIOUSLY IN 1993.

SNOWFALL FOR THE MONTH TOTALED 9.4 INCHES AT VALENTINE...AND WAS 3.8
INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 5.6 INCHES. NO DAILY SNOWFALL RECORDS
WERE SET DURING THE MONTH AT VALENTINE.
