Indoor Heat Safety Recommendations During Arctic Outbreak
IN THE WAKE OF AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT WHICH WILL PASS THROUGH THE
REGION BY SATURDAY EVENING, A SHARPLY COLDER AIRMASS WILL RESIDE
ACROSS THE REGION MUCH OF THE UPCOMING WEEK. BELOW ARE A FEW TIPS
TO MAINTAIN INDOOR SAFETY AND HOW TO HEAT YOUR HOME SAFELY.
 Ø ONLY USE FIREPLACES, WOOD STOVES, OR OTHER COMBUSTION HEATERS IF
THEY ARE PROPERLY VENTED TO THE OUTSIDE AND DO NOT LEAK FLUE GAS
INTO THE INDOOR AIR SPACE.

Ø ONLY USE FIREPLACES, WOOD STOVES,OR OTHER COMBUSTION HEATERS IF
THEY ARE PROPERLY VENTED TO THE OUTSIDE AND DO NOT LEAK FLUE GAS
INTO THE INDOOR AIR SPACE.

Ø  DO NOT BURN PAPER IN A FIREPLACE.

Ø ENSURE ADEQUATE VENTILATION IF YOU MUST USE A KEROSENE HEATER.

Ø USE ONLY THE TYPE OF FUEL YOUR HEATER IS DESIGNED TO USE.

Ø DO NOT PLACE SPACE HEATERS WITHIN 3 FEET OF ANYTHING THAT MAY CATCH
ON FIRE LIKE DRAPES,FURNITURE OR BEDDING, AND NEVER COVER YOUR
SPACE HEATER.

Ø NEVER PLACE A SPACE HEATER ON TOP OF FURNITURE OR NEAR WATER.

Ø NEVER LEAVE CHILDREN UNATTENDED NEAR A SPACE HEATER.

Ø MAKE SURE THAT THE CORD OF AN ELECTRIC SPACE HEATER IS NOT A
TRIPPING HAZARD BUT DO NOT RUN THE CORD UNDER CARPETS OR RUGS.

Ø AVOID USING EXTENSION CORDS TO PLUG IN YOUR SPACE HEATER.

Ø IF YOUR SPACE HEATER HAS A DAMAGED ELECTRICAL CORD OR PRODUCES SPARKS DO NOT USE IT.

Ø STORE A MULTIPURPOSE DRY-CHEMICAL FIRE EXTINGUISHER NEAR THE AREA TO BE HEATED.

Ø PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CARBON MONOXIDE (CO) POISONING BY INSTALLING
A BATTERY-OPERATED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR - AND DO NOT EVER USE       GENERATORS,GRILLS, CAMP STOVES OR SIMILAR DEVICES INDOORS.
