Thunderstorms Occurred Saturday Afternoon and Evening

Intense thunderstorms formed in the eastern Nebraska panhandle ahead of a cold front late Saturday afternoon. A tornado was reported by the public 15 miles southwest of Gordon at 4:46 p.m. MDT with one of the storms. Golf ball size hail was reported 5 miles northeast of Merriman at 525 p.m. MDT. As the storms moved further east, gusty winds over 40 mph surged ahead of them, which cut off their feed of warm and humid air. This reduced the strength of the storms as they moved into the Sandhills after 6:00 p.m. MDT.
