Hail and Heavy Rain Occurred Tuesday Afternoon and Evening

A cold front moving in from the northwest produced thunderstorms as it interacted with the warm and unstable air mass in place over the region. The storms began in rural eastern Cherry County during the mid-afternoon hours, and built back southwest into the Lisco and Oshkosh areas by early evening. The largest reported hail was up to the size of half dollars, which occurred 8 miles northwest of Oshkosh near 7:50 p.m. CDT or 6:50 p.m. MDT. Slow movement of the storms also caused heavy rain, with many spots receiving an inch or more of precipitation.
