Severe Weather Reports for Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

A few severe thunderstorms occurred east of Highway 83 Thursday afternoon and evening. Custer County was particularly hard hit, with 70 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail breaking windows in Merna around 6:00 p.m. CDT, and 70 mph winds and quarter size hail in Westerville around 6:25 p.m. CDT. A tornado also touched down one mile west of Berwyn around 6:30 p.m. CDT.

Parts of Boyd and Holt Counties in north central Nebraska were also hit hard as an intense storm known as a supercell moved through that area. For example, the storm produced winds estimated to be as high as 80 mph along with golf ball size hail one mile east of Gross between 7:15 and 7:30 p.m. CDT. A radar image of the supercell storm is shown below.
