North Platte Labor Day Climatology

The end of summer officially falls on the vernal equinox, however many consider Labor Day to be the end of summer. By Labor Day, kids have returned to school, football is in full swing, and summer vacations have ended. Labor Day originated in the late 1800s and has always been observed on the first Monday of September, which varies from the 1st of the month to the 7th. The weather can vary greatly during this transition from the ‘dog days of summer’ to the frosty fall conditions that change the color of the leaves. This study looks at past Labor Day weather conditions reported in North Platte since 1875.
