Valentine Memorial Day Climatology

Memorial Day occurs on May 30 every year, however since 1971, following the National Holiday Act passed by congress, the holiday has been observed on the last Monday of May. The date Memorial Day is observed can vary from as early as May 25 to as late as May 31. Before 1971 the holiday was always observed on May 30, and was called Decoration Day. Weather observations have been taken on this holiday at Valentine dating back to 1890. This study compares the weather reported on the observed day of Memorial (Decoration) Day.
