Ryan Knutsvig named Meteorologist-in-Charge at WFO North Platte

Ryan Knutsvig has accepted his position as the new Meteorologist-in-Charge, at the National Weather Service Forecast office in North Platte, Nebraska.  He began his new position on March 27th, 2012.

Ryan is a native of Buxton, North Dakota and obtained his BS and MS from the University of North Dakota. He comes to North Platte from his recent assignment in Elko, Nevada, where he had been the Science and Operations Officer since February 2007.  While in Elko, he had also been an Adjunct Professor at Great Basin College, teaching physics and physical geography. Prior to working in Elko he had prior assignments in Aberdeen, South Dakota; Riverton, Wyoming; and Brownsville, Texas.

He also spent 4 years working in private industry as a forecaster for Meridian Environmental Technology in Grand Forks, North Dakota, before joining the National Weather Service.

Some of Ryan's other interests include most sports, fishing and hunting, with a special emphasis on coaching children's sports.

Ryan is married to his wife Stephanie, and they have 2 sons – Kannon, age 8, and Caden, age 10.
