A large winter storm system continues to slowly spin over the Northern and Central Rockies tonight, bringing light to occasionally moderate snow to the Central Plains. This storm system will continue to eject east across the Plains on Monday bringing an end to the accumulating snowfall during the afternoon hours. Snowfall reports, through 10 AM CST on Monday, January 10th, generally ranged from 5 to 7 inches over a large portion of Western and North Central Nebraska. The least amount of snow was seen over the Panhandle into West Central Nebraska where 1 to 3 inches of snow has been reported The greatest amounts were seen across Central Nebraska where amounts near a foot were found over Southern Custer County...and reports exceeding a foot were common along and east of Highway 281. Arctic air will move in behind the storm system with highs on Tuesday and Wednesday in the single digits and lows well below zero! If conditions clear late Tuesday night, with a substantial snowpack in place, temperatures could fall to -20 or colder in some areas. Please continue to monitor this winter storm and prepare for severe winter weather conditions.
