Storm Total Snowfall Reports

Snow fell across much of western and north central Nebraska Wednesday as a low pressure system interacted with a cold air mass of arctic origins that was in place across the region. A particularly intense band of snow developed across the heart of the Sandhills due to that scenario. Ten to twelve inches of snow fell from the Mullen and Thedford areas southeast to Anselmo and Broken Bow. Snow was less on either side of that band, but even North Platte's Lee Bird Field received 6.3 inches of snow from the system. That was enough to set a new daily record snowfall and water equivalent precipitation, for January 19th. The old maximum snowfall ecord for the date was 3.0 inches, which fell on January 19th, 1966. The far southwestern and far north central parts of Nebraska escaped the heavy snow. Valentine only recorded 1.1 inches of accumulation.

Listed below are the snowfall reports received by the National Weather Service for locations in western and north central Nebraska.
