 8 November 1888 → More than 2 inches of rain fell across northern Kentucky, establishing daily rainfall records at Louisville and Lexington that still stand today.
  This Day in National/World Weather History ...
 8 November 1819 → In Montreal at midday the sky turned from a greenish tint to an inky black, then sooty rain fell. Frightened citizens made their way to their church when suddenly a lightning bolt struck the church's spire, and it crashed to the ground. The next day was bright and clear as if nothing had happened.
 8 November 1870 → The nation's brand new weather service issued its first storm forecast for the Great Lakes.
 8 November 1953 → More than 200 people were killed in New York City when the area was stuck in smog for ten days.
