Governor Steve Beshear has declared March 2-8, 2014 as Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kentucky.  Now is the time for all Kentuckians to prepare themselves and their homes for severe weather, including tornadoes, flash floods, and severe thunderstorms.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Super Outbreak of April 3rd, 1974, one of the worst tornado outbreaks to ever strike this region.  Those individuals that lived through that day will never forget it, and those not old enough to remember it should educate themselves on the events of that day because it can happen again.  Check out the 40th Anniversary of 1974 Tornado Super Outbreak Facebook Community to learn more about the outbreak.

Severe weather information on a variety of topics can be accessed by clicking on the graphics and links below and will be shared via our office Facebook and Twitter accounts throughout the week.  Also, don't forget to test out your severe weather plan during the live statewide tornado drill Wednesday morning at 10:07 am EST.

We encourage you to take some time this week and get prepared for the upcoming severe weather season!. is the U.S. government's official web portal to all federal, state and local government web resources and services.
