75 mph Straight Line Winds in Marion County:

A NWS SURVEY TEAM IN MARION COUNTY KENTUCKY NEAR LORETTO FOUND EVIDENCE OF STRAIGHT LINE WIND SPEEDS UP TO 75 MPH FROM THUNDERSTORMS FRIDAY MORNING.  THE AREA OF DAMAGE BEGAN NEAR WEST MARION ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON HIGHWAY 49 JUST EAST OF LORETTO WITH SOME TREE DAMAGE.  IT CONTINUES SOUTHEAST TO SAM BROWNING ROAD WHERE A FEEDING BARN WAS DESTROYED AND 50 COWS WERE PINNED AGAINST A WALL.  A 500 POUND HORSE TRAILER WAS ROLLED 65 YARDS FROM WEST TO EAST.  ON COWHERD LANE...TWO TOBACCO BARNS WERE PARTIALLY DESTROYED ALONG WITH TWO METAL BARNS.  THERE WERE ALSO TREES DOWN IN A WEST TO EAST ORIENTATION. THE DAMAGE ENCOMPASSED AND AREA ABOUT FOUR TENTHS OF A MILE WIDE AND SIX MILES LONG.  NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

 

80 mph Straight Line Winds in Hardin and Larue Counties:

A NWS SURVEY TEAM IN HARDIN AND LARUE COUNTIES IN CENTRAL KENTUCKY NEAR UPTON INVESTIGATED DAMAGE FROM EARLY FRIDAY MORNING THUNDERSTORMS.  THE TEAM ESTIMATED STRAIGHT LINE WIND SPEEDS UP TO 80 MPH.  THE AREA OF DAMAGE WAS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 0.8 MILES NORTH OF UPTON AND CONTINUED EASTWARD FOR A THIRD OF A MILE ACROSS HIGHWAY 31W JUST INSIDE THE LARUE COUNTY LINE.  THE DAMAGE ENCOMPASSED AN AREA ABOUT 1500 YARDS WIDE.  SEVERAL HARDWOOD AND CEDAR TREES WERE KNOCKED OVER IN A WEST TO EAST DIRECTION. APPROXIMATELY 12 POWER POLES WERE KNOCKED DOWN OR SNAPPED OFF...ALSO IN A WEST TO EAST DIRECTION.  A TOBACCO BARN WAS DESTROYED NEAR THE COUNTY LINE ALONG WITH TWO OTHER FARM BARNS.  TWO COWS INSIDE ONE OF THE BARNS WERE KILLED AND ONE OF THE BARNS PARTIALLY LANDED ON A HOUSE.  A 4500 POUND TRACTOR WAS ALSO MOVED 12 FEET FROM WEST TO EAST.
