During the 2006-2007 school year, the National Weather Service partnered with the U.S. Office of Homeland Security in an initiative that sent NWR receivers to all public schools in the U.S.   You can register your school's weather radio here.

A weather radio is helpful in preparing  you and your family for any weather. It will tell you when the NWS issues a watch or a warning for your county, and other counties if desired.

The broadcast schedule consists of   recorded messages which are repeated   every three to five minutes and are   routinely revised to provide the latest   up-to-date information. The broadcasts on NOAA Weather Radio are  tailored to the weather needs of the people within the receiving area, and include a variety of programming subjects.
