Occasionally, many tornadoes occur across several states associated with a single weather system. Such an event, known as a tornado "outbreak," can result in considerable damage and many casualties. Three such outbreaks are highlighted here.
- Carolinas Outbreak: 22 tornadoes during the afternoon and evening of March 28, 1984, resulting in 57 deaths, 1,248 injuries, and $200 million in damage.
