Flash Flood Warning (FFW, WGUS53 KLMK)

Flash Flood Warnings are issued as needed and focus on specific communities, streams or areas where flooding is imminent or already in progress. Flash flooding occurs when the water level rises rapidly to inundation within six hours of the heavy rainfall.  This product is reserved for short-term events which require immediate action to protect lives and property, such as dangerous small stream flooding or urban flooding, and dam or levee failures. Flash flood warnings will be issued for single counties, or for small groups of counties, and will be followed up with Flash Flood Statements.

Flash Flood Warnings contain...

  • the county or group of counties affected by the flooding event,
  • the warning expiration time,
  • the location and direction of storm movement,
  • locations affected by the storm, and
  • call-to-action statements and/or other information.
