The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma issues all preliminary severe
thunderstorm and tornado watches across the United States.
Local NWS offices make the final decision on whether or not individual
counties are included in the watch area, and may adjust the
preliminary watch box accordingly by adding or deleting necessary
counties. Local NWS offices issue a Weather Watch Redefining
Outline that provides a list of counties that ARE in the watch.
The product includes the type of watch, the watch number, the
expiration time of the watch, all counties included in the watch
grouped by geographical divisions of the state, and larger cities
and towns in the watch area. Weather Watch Areal Outlines
are disseminated for states, thus Indiana counties would be found
in the Weather Watch Areal Outline as issued by NWS Indianapolis.
