Tornado Warnings are issued as needed when a tornado is imminent,
has a high probability of occurrence, or is already in progress.
A tornado is a violently rotating column of air, usually a pendent
from a cumulonimbus cloud, with the circulation reaching the
ground. It nearly always starts as a funnel cloud and may be
accompanied by a loud roaring noise. On a local scale, it is the
most destructive of all atmospheric phenomena. Tornado Warnings will be issued for single
counties, or for small groups of counties, and will be followed up
with Severe Weather Statements.
Tornado Warnings contain...
- the county or group of counties affected by the tornadic
event,
- the warning expiration time,
- the location and direction of storm movement,
- locations in the path of the storm, and
- call-to-action statements and/or other information.
