This is the Principle User Processor (PUP),
i.e., the workstation, of the Louisville-Ft. Knox (KLVX) WSR-88D
Doppler Radar located at NWS Louisville. Data available at the PUP allows
scrutiny of the structure, evolution,
and movement of precipitation systems. This is crucial for general
forecasting and in the severe weather warning decision process.
A large amount of processed and requested data can be viewed
on the PUP which consists of 2 independent screens and a data
tablet. Each screen can be subdivided into 4-panel displays allowing
simultaneous multiple data display. Most
of the data displayed at the PUP originates in the Radar
Products Generator (RPG). NOTE: Since the commissioning of AWIPS
and the availability and versatility of WSR-88D data on AWIPS
workstations, most radar data observation and evaluation now is
performed on AWIPS and less so on the PUP. |
