AWIPS ingests all radar data products
from NWS Louisville's WSR-88D Doppler radar. In addition, certain products
from neighboring WSR-88D radars ingest automatically into AWIPS, while other
radar products can be requested for display on the workstations. Overlays can
be placed on the radar data in AWIPS,
if desired. At left, an NWS Louisville WSR-88D base reflectivity
image is shown. Scattered thunderstorms are evident over south-central
Kentucky and across north-central Tennessee. Various graphics and map
backgrounds can be overlaid on the data. The data also can be zoomed in
several times and animated to allow better assessment of precipitation movement and intensity
trends. |
