This is a close-up image of the large window
pane within each graphical AWIPS monitor. Any type of data can
be displayed. Some data is available on a northern hemispheric
scale, while other data is available on a state and county scale.
Data can be displayed in plotted and contoured form as well as
in color image format. Forecasters have tons of customization
options, as many combinations of data can be displayed on each
screen, and the color, line style, line thickness, magnification,
density, etc. of displayed data can be changed very easily. In
the image at left, a combination of surface pressure (isobars;
solid lines), 1000-500 mb thickness (proportional to atmospheric
temperature; dashed lines), and a colored relative humidity image
from the ETA numerical model forecast are shown. |
