Besides looking at data in a plan
(horizontal) view, vertical cross-sections of model forecast
data can be constructed for any location desired by the forecaster.
In this time-height cross-section, model forecast time every
6 hours is along the horizontal x-axis with pressure/height along
the vertical y-axis. In this image, wind barbs and relative humidity (RH;
solid lines) are displayed, along with a color image of relative humidity
where blue is moist (high RH) and red is dry (low RH). A number of other data
fields can be overlaid on time-height cross-sections as well.
Cross-sections are extremely useful, enabling forecasters to
analyze data in both space and time simultaneously. |
