An arctic boundary settled south of the area on the 12th and 13th of January bringing subfreezing temperatures to the northwestern half of the county warning area. Three rounds of precipitation occurred during this period, with the first being the most destructive of all. Significant tree and limb damage was reported as a result of this storm, together with widespread power outages. More than 100,000 homes and businesses lost power during this storm. Below is a list of sleet and freezing rain totals that occurred during the first round of wintry weather Friday and Friday night. The second round Saturday evening added minor ice accumulations to the map below. The third round that occurred on Sunday and Sunday night brought up to an additional half inch of ice accumulation to portions of central and northeast Missouri. Elsewhere, temperatures warmed enough that the precipitation fell as rain. Flooding of low lying areas and low water crossings occurred across the eastern Ozarks late Friday night and Saturday morning. One fatality occurred in St. Francios County when a man attempted to cross a flooded roadway. |
