WSR-88D KLSX reflectivity and storm relative velocity radar loop of the tornadic circulation as it moves northeast across southern St. Charles County (South of Highway 94). Note the very high reflectivity (white) that occurs when the tornado produced EF3 damage on Haversham Drive. The tornado passed within half of a mile of the Weather Forecast Office in Weldon Spring where the radar is located.
WSR-88D KLSX reflectivity and storm relative velocity radar loop of the tornadic circulation as it crosses the Missouri River from St. Charles County into St. Louis County. The tornado begins to wrap completely back behind the initial band of rain as it moves east/northeast across Earth City toward Lambert International Airport.
TDWR TSTL storm relative velocity radar loop. The velocity (or wind speed) increases and broadens as it moves east-northeast closer to the radar.
WSR-88D KLSX reflectivity and storm relative velocity annotated radar image southeastern St. Charles County.
WSR-88D KLSX reflectivity and storm relative velocity annotated radar image near Earth City (western St. Louis County)
WSR-88D KLSX four panel radar image displaying reflectivity (upper left), storm relative velocity (upper right), correlation coefficient (lower left), and differential reflectivity (lower right). Together and collocated, the high reflectivity typical of debris, strong velocity couplet, low correlation coefficient values (donut hole), and near zero differential reflectivity verifies a tornado debris signature. This is a new tool for tornado detection thanks to the dual-pol upgrade that was completely on the radar in 2012.
