...PRELIMINARY DAMAGE SURVEY FOR THE EVENING OF APRIL 2 2006 IN
NORTHERN MADISON...SOUTHEASTERN MACOUPIN AND MONTGOMERY COUNTIES IN
ILLINOIS...

PERSONNEL FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN ST. LOUIS
SURVEYED DAMAGE THAT OCCURRED FROM THREE NON-SUPERCELLUAR TORNADOES
PRODUCED ON THE FRONT EDGE OF A LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS.

THE FIRST TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT 1 MILE SOUTH OF DORSEY AND
LIFTED NEAR MT. OLIVE.  THE DAMAGE CONSISTED OF MAINLY INTERMITTENT
TREE DAMAGE AND MINOR SHINGLE DAMAGE TO ROOFS.

DAMAGE INTENSITY...F0

THE SECOND TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN FROM ABOUT 1 MILE NORTHEAST OF
WALSHVILLE AND LIFTED A SHORT TIME LATE 1 MILE NORTH OF WALSHVILLE.
THE TORNADO DESTROYED A SMALL SHED AND A TREE AT A FARMSTEAD...AND
CAUSED MINOR ROOF DAMAGE TO A SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE.

DAMAGE INTENSITY...F0

THE THIRD AND MOST SIGNIFICANT TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN ON THE SOUTH
SIDE OF HILLSBORO AND LIFTED ABOUT 4 MILES SOUTHEAST OF OHLMAN.  THE
TORNADO FIRST CAUSED A NARROW PATH OF SIGN AND WINDOW DAMAGE AT A
CAR DEALERSHIP AND TWO CONVENIENCE STATIONS...AND BLEW SOME METAL
SHEETING INTO NEARBY TREES AT A HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE.  IT THEN
DESTROYED BARNS 1 MILE SOUTHEAST OF IRVING AND 2 MILES SOUTH OF
WITT.  THE BARN DAMAGE SOUTH OF WITT IS RATED AS LOW END F1. THE
TORNADO THEN DESTROYED A METAL SHED 3 MILES SOUTH OF NOKOMIS AND
LOFTED THE SHEET METAL UP TO NEARLY A MILE DOWNSTREAM...AND ALSO
CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO A GRAIN BIN ON A FARM APPROXIMATELY 3 MILES
SOUTHEAST OF NOKOMIS.  IT THEN CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO A MACHINE SHED
3 MILES EAST OF NOKOMIS WHERE THE SHEET METAL WAS LOFTED
APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE DOWNSTEAM.  THE TORNADO THEN WIDENED TO
NEARLY 200 YARDS WHERE IT TOPPLED AND CRUMPLED TWO HIGH TENSION
ELECTRICAL POWER LINE TOWERS ABOUT 5 MILES EAST OF NOKOMIS.  THIS
DAMAGE IS RATED AS LOW END F2.  THE TORNADO THEN NARROWED AND
DESTROYED ANOTHER GRAIN BIN AND CAUSED MINOR TREE DAMAGE BEFORE
ENDING.
